We are Jan and Marita Folkus and we got married in 1995. In 2005, we decided to exchange the hectic lifestyle of Pretoria for a more tranquil life in the lovely Bushveld – with no regrets! In October 2005, we started a to dream under the big fig tree…
There has been a lot of work done from 2005 up until today. Our guest arrive as strangers and leave as friends – always returning and commenting on the new additions and improvements made to Big Fig Inn.
It is a bird-lovers paradise! We proud ourselves in the many indigenous trees on the premises that are attracting the birds for food and nesting opportunities. We offer ‘Stop and Go’ accommodation for motorists & travelers who arrive late and want to leave early with camping facilities and chalets. On site, you will find Bonwatau (a liquor store), Big Fig Café and a convenience store with trading hours from 07:00 till 18:00.
We also have a communal braai (barbecue) area for late nights around a warm cosy campfire – also known as ‘Jan se kuierput.
We have many things happening at this oasis, but feel free to come in and enjoy the good company and become acquainted with the Bushveld-hospitality. The Big Fig Café – it is under new owner-management, and we can proudly recommend their menu, especially the hamburgers which has been crowned the best Burgers in the country, not by us, but by our visitors! All our secret recipes has been shared with Nicolet and Martin and they are proudly keeping up the reputation of good food and hospitality!
Feel free to contact us if you plan to arrive late and have any specific needs relating to food and refreshments – arrangements could be made in this regard. We continually aim to improve our guests experience at the Big Fig Inn!
